| A grueling first game. This is the second time I've lost to Joe. We each promoted twice in the endgame, and I think I may have had a draw. In my second game against Jim (last time we played we drew after I missed a game-winning tactic) I applied heavy pressure, won a pawn and ground out a long endgame with four rooks on the board. In my third game against Dr. Cano (the first time we played was a draw that I should have lost) I felt I didn't play the opening well, but I managed to untangle myself and achieve some counterplay, but he defended well and offered a draw. This is a difference I've noticed playing in the A section: at times today I'd see what I think of as really clever subtle tactical threats, and these guys seem to see it all very quickly. My fourth game against Muliadi went fairly quickly. His "official" rating is 1954, but his unofficial puts him at expert. I'd like to say his higher rating beat me, but unfortunately I blundered the exchange! Maybe it's time to practice with CT-ART again. My final game against Damir went down to an endgame where I had a bishop and a 4-3 kingside pawn majority, and Damir had a knight and a 3-2 queenside majority. I eventually converted it into a win. |
