| First game I played really well for 27 moves, and may have had a slight positional advantage, then blundered a pawn and eventually lost the longest game of the evening. Lesson: Blunder Check every move. Second game featured a messy tactical sequence where I saw deeper than my opponent. Third game my opponent sacrificed a pawn hoping for a strong attack, but I quickly dissipated any counterplay and traded down while damaging his pawn structure on both wings, and I converted the win. Fourth game is a lesson in not giving up. I missed a tactic and lost all three of my kingside pawns. I watched my opponent start marching his kingside pawns forward. At one point I was even looking around for him to resign. Unable to find him, I decided to try a little longer. I managed to win back two of the pawns with tactics, and had hopes of blocking the position for a draw. Then my opponent hung a bishop and I converted the win. Fifth game I misplayed the opening, and then was basically outplayed the rest of the game. My opponent took his positional advantage and played very well to eventually win. At least no tactical blunders for me that game! All in all, a good tournament for my return to chess. |
